Markham (/mrkm/) is a city in the Southern Ontario region of Canada in the York Municipality. Downtown Toronto is about 30 kilometres (19 miles) southeast. The city covers 212.47 square kilometres (82.04 square miles).
It is surrounded by 5 municipalities; to the west is Vaughan, the boundary running between Steeles Avenue and Highway 7. The Richmond Hill boundary spans Highway 7 from Yonge Street to Highway 404. And Highway 404 from Highway 7 to 19th Avenue and Stouffville Road. Its southern boundary extends along Steeles Avenue, which is part of the Toronto boundary. The northern boundary of Whitchurch-Stouffville is Highway 404 from 19th Avenue and Stouffville Road. The York-Durham Line in the east with Pickering.
