The 18-hole Scarlett Woods Golf Course in York, ON is a public golf course that opened in 1974. Designed by Howard Watson, Scarlett Woods Golf Course measures 3749 yards from the longest tees. The course features 2 sets of tees for different skill levels and has a slope rating of 137. Holes range from wide-open shots where it’s hard to find your ball off the tee, such as number 17 or tough short par-four holes like 13 and 14.
It’s a great place for people wanting to spend a great weekend and play some golf without going outside of the city. Scarlett Woods Golf Course is a member of the Canadian Tour and has hosted events such as the 1992 World Cup, 1994 World Amateur Team Championship, 1998 Solheim Cup. The course also hosts the Men’s Canada Senior Open every year from 1995-1999.
For more than 40 years Scarlett Woods Golf Club has been at the forefront of golf in North America with its tradition, but this was not always so. In 1930 there were two courses on site: York Downs and an 18 hole layout that opened in 1926 called Scarboro Heights. With over 80 acres to work with development plans are underway for future expansion projects including new teeing grounds and greens making it possible to have 108 holes when completed.
Scarlett Woods Golf Course is a very beautiful course that has some spectacular views of the city. There are many different types of shots you can play and each time it’s really fun to try and figure out which one would be best for your skill level. You’ll see features such as water, bunkers, trees, sand traps on both sides of the fairway etc.
The club has plans to develop the course to provide a truly Canadian experience. This will include new golf holes, more trees and water features on the fairways as well as an additional nine-hole layout with two loops of three different sets of tees. The course is definitely worth checking out if you are in York with some extra time or looking for a place to play on a warm sunny day during summer.
